Q1 What are these black & white spots on my surface, and how do you remove them?

Lichen is the most common type of driveway and patio contamination, most common are white and black varieties. They can be either a single entity, or in a group. Lichen are a living organism and attach themselves to your driveway or patio surface, and can survive and grow with just light and water!

Q2 How do you clean Sandstone patio’s?

We consider the type of stone to be cleaned, Indian and York stone can be very soft so extra care is needed. For a typical sandstone patio, we would first give the surface a gentle pressure wash, to remove the top layer of grime and soiling, it is important not to apply too much pressure as this can damage the stone!

Second, we apply a softwash (see here) which when rinsed off will remove the majority of the dirt and contamination.

Third, we inspect the surface and if required we repeat the process until we satisfied it is as clean as possible, only then are we satisfied.

Please see our patio and driveway cleaning pages.

Q3 Do you remove weeds?

As part of the cleaning process we remove the weeds, the best approach is to apply a weed killer treatment 2 – 4 weeks before cleaning which we can provide. When we clean the surface the dead weeds will be removed as part of the cleaning process.

Great question, and there is not one answer, typically 1 – 2 years depending various factors, including:
