The Job

We recently headed out to a property for a driveway cleaning in Wombourne. The customer had a block-paved driveway that had seen better days. It was dealing with the usual suspects: general grime, traffic film, and that muddy organic buildup you get on exposed driveways.
However, the dirt wasn’t the main concern here—it was the water. The driveway’s soakaway was completely blocked, meaning any water we used wasn’t going to drain naturally. Without a plan, a heavy clean like this would have sent water flooding straight into the garage (which apparently happens during heavy storms).
The Plan
Managing the Water We couldn’t just fire up the pressure washers and hope for the best. We needed to control the runoff. After checking the levels, we confirmed the soakaway was useless, so we set up a temporary water dam.
This acted as a physical barrier, stopping the dirty water from running back toward the house. Instead, it allowed us to channel the flow safely toward a functioning drain elsewhere on the property. This setup meant we could clean deep without worrying about flooding the customer’s garage.
The Clean & Finish
With the water containment in place, we got to work using our flat surface cleaner. This equipment keeps the pressure consistent across the blocks for an even finish without chewing up the surface. throughout the wash, we monitored the water dam to make sure all the runoff was being diverted exactly where we wanted it.
Once the cleaning was done and the surface was bone dry, we came back to re-sand. Sweeping in fresh kiln-dried sand is what really finishes a job—it stabilises the blocks and gives it that “just laid” look.
The Outcome

The transformation was huge. The grime is gone, the paving looks refreshed, and the finish is uniform. Best of all, we completed the whole job without a single drop of water entering the garage.
The customer was over the moon with the result and specifically appreciated the extra care we took to manage the drainage issues.
Our Takeaway
This job really proves that prep work is everything. Just because a property has poor or failed drainage doesn’t mean it can’t be cleaned professionally. As long as you assess the site first and use the right water management techniques (like redirecting runoff), you can get a brilliant result without putting the property at risk.
